About Us
The Lincoln Hills Guitar Ensemble is a subset of the Sun City Music Group and is open to any resident of Sun City. There are no fees or dues: We volunteer our time to, hopefully, make it a fun & enjoyable experience. It’s fun for us, too, which is why we do it.
Pretty much the only requirement is Basic/Entry level music reading skill and being familiar with open position guitar chords, and the open position scales of keys C, F and G. However, we are willing to help those that can play & sing to chords but can’t read music or play a scale – as long as they’re willing to put the effort in to learn.
There is a wide range of skills in the group and we do our best to arrange the pieces that we play in 3 parts so that everyone has fun and is potentially challenged. Bass lines are generally easier to play, while sometimes the melody or harmony can challenge an intermediate player. Regardless, we encourage all the players in the ensemble to play all the parts and to switch around during each practice session. Some actually do that!
The music we play is quite varied. We take requests and don’t place any restrictions on the genre. If there’s a piece of music that you’d like the ensemble to play then we’ll do our best to make an arrangement for it. We think if you review our Music Library (see Library page) or Calendar you’ll see that just about anything goes!
We’re currently meeting in Orchard Creek Friday afternoons 1:30-3:00 pm. The room varies, but usually in the Fine Arts room.
